Main Line Power Outage Updates

A source tells us that while many folks along the Main Line and in Chester and Montgomery and Bucks Counties have had power restored, many others including pockets of Lower Merion could be without power until the weekend.

While acts of Mother Nature are impossible to predict, isn't it safe to assume that this area has somewhat of an emergency preparedness issue?

In the greater Philadelphia area, we pay a LOT for our utlities. We can't find data saying if we are among the most expensive definitively, although purportedly we're up there.

Customer service while greatly improved over years past, is still not what it should be. When you have a service outage or interruption, how is your personal frustration level? How long and how confusing is it to get through all the prompts and the annoying automated voices? And once you get through these "service improvement" hazards, do you always get a nice and knowledgeable customer service representative, or do you not sometimes get a not so nice to the point of rude customer service representative? When you are told you will get a call back, does it happen?

Have you ever asked a PECO energy worker or Verizon worker or any other utility worker when they report to an outage what time they were notified of the problem? Ask them some time. You'll be surprised at the responses. You can call literally hours before help is ever dispatched.

We've been taking the pulse of folks we know all over this area from Phoenixville to the other side of Montgomery County, to Bucks, to Chester County. Every person has a different story and will tell you that every person in their neighborhoods get a different story.

We say we should get more for our high costs of energy and other utility services. Whether it is basic maintenance to infrastructure improvements consistent with the pace of development to basic response times and customer service, we need more bang for our hard earned bucks.

Just our opinion. And we are entitled to it.
